Quick guide to preparing your boat for transport:
1. Make sure the motor on your boat is in locked position.. This way your boat motor does not move around freely.
2. Check the air pressure in your boat trailer tires. Having the proper air can make a huge difference in the risk of having a tire blow.
3. Check the tires for cracking or dry rot. A dry rotted tire on a boat carrier trailer can blow with ease.
4. Check the tread on the boat trailer tires.
5. Check the lights. Make sure the light fixtures are secured and mounted properly. Make sure they are clean , not cracked and do work.
6. Electric trailer brakes on a boat hauling trailer: If you have a way to have someone check the brakes to see if they work that would be great.. Some boat are very light weight under 5000 pounds including trailer weight.. In this case, we it doesnt matter as much if brakes do not work but its a good idea to check anyway.
7. Surge trailer brakes on a boat hauling trailer use hydrolics. Over the years we have seen a high percentage of those trailers leak and rarely work. Please have that checked and fixed before we show up to transport your boat.
8. Boat covers are great to have if your boat is just sitting still. Do NOT leave a boat cover on a boat while in transport because most likely it will rip. Not only that the wind is strong while boat is being towed...therefore it will scuff up your boat. Simply bag up the boat cover and place it in a secure location in your boat.
9. Boat should be mounted to your trailer properly for long distance transport. Here are some quick boat mouting on trailer tips: The safety chain should be hooked to the trailer. The winch should be hooked to your trailer. Extra boat tie downs should be used as well. This way your boat does not bounce around your trailer while in transportation.
10. Items such as seat cushions as well as any loose items, make sure they are secured somewhere safe inside the boat.
